SU presidential Q&A axed at last minute without explanation

Written by Toby Cray

The presidential Q&A for the Students’ Union election race was pulled yesterday, on 3 March, at the last minute and without an explanation.

The Students’ Union is yet to give an explanation, creating doubt over why this event was pulled.

Leicester Student Magazine has contacted both candidates, Rhiannon Jenkins and Pedram Bani Asadi, and the Students’ Union, but has not received a reply from any of them.

On the anonymous Facebook webpage LeicFess, one person posted:

“Why has the president’s Q&A been cancelled? Anyone know?”

To which another replied: “I don’t recall being told.”

Viewers of the Q&A, which also included the Wellbeing and education candidates, were not given any explanation, as to why the president’s part of the show was cancelled.

The event which was supposed to last an hour and a half, ended just after half an hour, due to Millie Loader, a wellbeing candidate, struggling from technical issues.

The LeicFess webpage has received several anonymous posts regarding the presidential race, with one such post stating:

“Dont focus on the drama on su president, just vote for the person with the better manifesto. thats the point of elections anyway.

“the drama aint worth it bc they like the attention oop”
